The Nogai are the descendants of different Turkic and Mongolian tribes who were under Nogai who was one of the Golden Horde rulers. Later, they merged with the Turkic-speaking Polovtsy and their language.
Up to the twentieth century, nomadic cattle-breeding was their main occupation. The Nogai living on the Kuban River became settled at the end of the eighteenth century and turned to agriculture. At present day, all Nogai groups are settled. Besides cattle-breeding, rural economy entered agriculture.
Nogai believers are Islam-Sunnites.
