The Krysen are a small ethnic group living in some settlements of Kuba and Khachmassk districts of Azerbaijan. The word “Krysen” originates from the town of Kryz in Kuba district.
The Krysen speak Krysic, which belongs to the Lezgin group of the Caucasian (Daghestan) languages. Almost every Krysen knows the Azerbaijanian language. Their children are taught in Krysic language at school.
Krysen believers are Islam-Sunnites. The main occupation of the Krysen is cattle-breeding while agriculture is of secondary importance for them. Their trades are represented by carpet weaving and manufacture of mats and patterned woolen items.
In their everyday life the Krysen consolidate with the Azerbaijans.
